Private School for Children with Learning Disabilities and/or ADHD Has Secured a Location in South Surrey/White Rock, British Columbia
SOUTH SURREY and WHITE ROCK, BC, April 26, 2012 /CNW/ – Eaton Arrowsmith School White Rock will open in September 2012. A location has now been secured at: Units 300 & 301 1538 Foster St, White Rock, BC V4B 3X7. Currently, Eaton Arrowsmith School has branches in Vancouver and Victoria.
The school is designed to improve the cognitive functioning of children with learning disabilities and/or attention disorders. Known as neuroplasticity, this improvement of cognitive functioning involves a regimen of cognitive exercises. These exercises, in turn, alter the brain’s neuronal structure and reorganize neural networks and their functions. This results in significantly reduced need for academic support and accommodations.
Eaton Arrowsmith Schools were founded by Howard Eaton, Ed.M., based on the Arrowsmith School principles created by Barbara Arrowsmith Young, who opened the first Arrowsmith School in Toronto, Ontario more than 30 years ago. The schools are built on Arrowsmith Young’s cognitive exercises that target 19 specific cognitive areas through stimulating the brain areas in isolation.
The Arrowsmith School was recently named “The Most Innovative Special Education School” by Sharpbrains.com 2010 Innovation Awards in neuroscience. The Arrowsmith Program is now being utilized in schools across North America.
The school will be similar to the one established in Victoria, British Columbia. Maximum full time enrolment will be between 25 to 30 students. The daily curriculum at EAS White Rock encompasses 6 cognitive exercise courses, as well as Mathematics and English courses at each child’s grade level. As well, daily mindfulness instruction will take place to further improve executive functioning or attention. The average length of enrolment is 3 years and then a child transitions back into the regular education environment.
The next information session for EAS White Rock will take place at the following location:

Arrowsmith-Young has been able to describe, in a poignant and often unforgettable way, what it feels like to have a devastating learning disorder–but also what it’s like to leave it behind.”
